We are a small, dedicated local bakery, based on an organic farm at Shillingford Abbot on the outskirts of Exeter.
Our aim is to make real bread, using traditional methods and organically grown products where available. We use Shipton Mill organic flours for all our bread and bakery products. Although we use a dough mixer, every loaf is weighed out and shaped by hand, a time consuming but rewarding process. All loaves are tin baked and available in 400g or 800g sizes.
Emma's Bread is lactose free and suitable for vegans or vegetarians but not recommended for those trying to avoid gluten as even rye and spelt have low levels. We add salt, an essential ingredient in breadmaking, to all our dough but keep it to a minimum. We not use flour improvers or any other agents so our bread will go stale as all good bread should within a few days. However you can freeze loaves or even slice them and freeze in proper bags to prevent them getting dry.
